As we continue to explore the central responsibilities of the church, we consider the areas of evangelism and mercy ministry. Luke tells us in his gospel that Jesus was a prophet powerful in “word and deed” and truly both word and deed depend upon each other for either to be successful. We cannot only preach. We must not only give. The church must both preach a bold and clear message and back up that message with concrete, tangible care for those that are weak and needy.
The Tower of Babel is a familiar yet strange story from early in human history. We all still today live under its curse. As we look at the motivations behind these Babel-builders and how God stopped them, we reflect on how one should judge success in today’s world.
