Liturgy

As with a confession, every church has a liturgy. The question is not whether a church will have a liturgy, but which liturgy it will have. At Christ Church, we seek to worship God according to his revealed Word, and according to the wisdom of the Church throughout the ages. We seek to avoid the extremes of sappy sentimentalism, as well as dishonest sacramentalism.

Christ Church unashamedly seeks to worship God with all our heart, mind, soul, and body. We ask the Lord to purify our hearts through confession of sin and humble prayer. We attend eagerly to the preached Word with our mind. Our souls are nourished through the Word and the Supper. Our body is engaged in kneeling before Almighty God, in lifting up our hands in prayer, and in heartily singing His praises.

We seek to offer our service of musical worship, not in the tattered rags of our degenerate culture, but in the beautiful robes of time-tested psalms and hymns. We do not want to sqaunder the rich musical heritage of the Church, and so our psalter-hymnbook draws heavily on the Genevan psalms, as well as the music of the English and Scottish reformations.

"There is not an inch in the entire domain of our human life of which Christ, who is sovereign of all, does not proclaim 'Mine!'…One desire has been the ruling passion of my life. One high motive has acted like a spur upon my mind and soul…It is this: That in spite of all worldly opposition, God's holy ordinances shall be established again in the home, in the school and in the State for the good of the people."
